Metamorphoses includes drawings by four area artists, whose tightly-controlled yet mysterious images suggest dissolution—of beliefs, information, even the body itself—and subsequent re-integration into novel forms that convey a sense of renewed possibility. The title was inspired by Ovid’s interpretations of bodily transformations in ancient mythology, but also connects to the Surrealists’ use of art to dissolve the veils of the world by imaginatively injecting culture with visions of inner life. The exhibition will be accompanied by a small publication, with an essay that will further explore these ideas.

The artists in the exhibition are Chris Scarborough, Kristi Hargrove, Mark Hosford, and Erin Anfinson.
