Woven Nashville: An Evening of Music, Art, and Conversation is a creative experience hosted by Jason Eskridge of Sunday Night Soul and Chuck Beard of East Side Storytellin.
This series brings together unique pairings of extraordinary Nashville creators working in all kinds of media. Each specially curated program pairs musicians with painters, writers, comics, dancers, spoken-word artists, and more. Programs are also inspired by and connected to current exhibitions at the Frist Art Museum, creating an ongoing dialogue between the museum’s visual art and Nashville’s vibrant performing and literary communities.
Our goal is to provide a “mixtape” atmosphere, blending individual and collaborative performances and conversations designed to lift up the talented people who make up Nashville. This program welcomes artist Chalet Comellas, whose work is featured in Shimmer: Dreaming the Posthuman, and local musician and producer Mark Baker.
About the featured creators
Chalet Comellas views the studio as a space for structured indeterminacy, where intuitive gestures and systematic frameworks coexist to create a host of conceptual projects. Her work is interdisciplinary and at times collaborative, working across installation, sculpture, painting, video, and sound.
Comellas holds an MFA in interdisciplinary art from Florida State University and a BFA in studio art with a concentration in painting from the University of Tampa. She has a research-based art practice and has taught as an assistant professor in the Department of Art at Florida State University and as a visiting assistant professor of digital foundations in the Department of Art and Design at Austin Peay State University. Her work has been presented nationally and internationally at numerous museums, academic institutions, and galleries, with works placed in public and private collections. In addition to her studio practice and teaching, she is the cofounder of Unrequited Leisure, a collaborative curatorial project focused on new-media art and visual culture.

Mark Baker is a musician, sound artist, and the executive producer of Mod Prom Records. He frequently collaborates with multidisciplinary artist Chalet Comellas on immersive, time-based new-media and sound-art installations. He is best known for his collaborative production work with Americana/country-rock singer-songwriter Emily Duff, serving as the executive producer for her notable 2017 album, Maybe in the Morning, recorded in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
