Here are answers to our most frequently asked questions regarding membership.

Membership Benefits

All General membership levels receive the following benefits:
• Unlimited free admission for a full year to FAM exhibitions and Martin Art Quest Gallery
• Two single-use guest passes
• Discounted parking in FAM lots (valid only during FAM operating hours; subject to availability)
• Discounts on classes and workshops
• 10 percent gift shop discount
• Invitations to members-only events, previews, and tours
• A subscription to our member magazine, the Frist Art Museum Bulletin

All Contributing membership levels also receive these benefits:
• Two additional single-use guest passes (4 total)

Guest Passes

How do I receive guest passes?
All guest passes are attached to your membership profile in our system. When you check in, let the associate in Guest Services or Member Services know that you would like to redeem available passes.

Can guests come to the museum without a member present?
No. We ask that members be present for a guest to use the member’s available guest passes. Member cards also cannot be used by another person.

Can I purchase extra guest passes?
If you have used all your guest passes for the year, the next option is to purchase admission for your guests. Tickets can be purchased online in advance or in person the day of your visit. Ticket information

Do guest passes roll over from year to year?
No. Guest passes are active through the term of your membership and expire when the membership expires.

Parking

How do I receive membership parking discounts?
While checking in, our associates in Guest Services or Member Services will provide you with a discount voucher for our parking lot. If you your membership benefits include free parking vouchers, please let the associate know that you would like to redeem available passes.

The parking rate in the Frist Art Museum lot is $10 per hour by default; with the discount voucher, it is $2 per hour with a $20 daily maximum. The discount voucher may only be used once and will deactivate after use. When leaving the lot, scan the QR code at the gate after inserting your parking ticket. If you have any issues with the gate, please press the silver Help button and security will assist you.

The discounted parking rate is only available to members visiting our galleries and is subject to parking space availability. We do not offer parking validation for members who do not check in with Guest Services for admission and visit the galleries. All passes are for Frist Art Museum lots only; parking is available on a first-come first-served basis. A flat-rate parking fee may apply to certain special events.

Can I use my parking discount outside of the museum’s operating hours?
Parking vouchers are provided upon check-in during museum hours only.
The lot is available for parking thirty minutes before the museum’s doors open, and the lot closes at 3:00 a.m. No cars are allowed in the lot past 3:00 a.m. There is no guarantee that museum staff will be available outside museum hours (apart from event parking). Guests parking in our lot outside of museum hours park at their own discretion.

I had an issue with my parking discount and paid the regular price. Can I get a refund?

If you are currently having issues with the parking lot gate, please press the silver Help button and security will assist you.

If you have already paid a nonmember price when you should have received a discount, the Membership office will help facilitate a refund with our parking lot. Please provide Membership with the receipt from your transaction at the gate and the parking voucher if you still have it. With that information, we will submit a refund request for the amount overpaid. We will notify you if the refund is approved, and you can expect to receive the refund in the mail as a check.

Discounts

How do I use my gift shop discount?
Once you check in at the Guest Services or the Membership desk, you will be given a sticker to wear during your visit that indicates you are a member. Our gift shop associates will either notice this sticker or ask if you are a member at checkout and apply the discount.

How do I use my discounts on classes and workshops?
For classes and workshops that require payment to register, there will be member and nonmember price options. Please select the nonmember option, and we will confirm your membership status during check-in.

Other

How do I sign up for membership emails?
All active members will automatically receive membership emails. Our emails typically include exhibition and membership event invites, and renewal reminders.

I do not want to receive membership emails; what do I do?
Please email the Membership office and let us know if you’d like to take a break from membership emails. If you click Unsubscribe at the bottom of one of the Frist Art Museum’s e-newsletters, we legally cannot add your email back to our list later.

By choosing to not receive membership emails, members must understand they may not receive information regarding membership events.

I do not want to receive mailed materials; what do I do?
Please contact the Membership office and we will note your preference in our system. You can also let us know if you would like to undo this at any time.

Are memberships tax deductible?
Memberships may be tax deductible. Because of the complexity of tax regulation, we recommend that you consult with your tax adviser if you have questions regarding your individual circumstances.

Your membership has the potential for tax deductibility, as follows:
• Warhol Society ($100): The potential tax-deductible amount is $75.
• Friend ($125): The potential tax-deductible amount is $85.
• Patron ($250): The potential tax-deductible amount is $210.
• Benefactor ($500): The potential tax-deductible amount is $460.
• Patrons’ Circle ($1,500): The potential tax-deductible amount is $1,275.
• Curators’ Circle ($3,000): The potential tax-deductible amount is $2,775.
• Masterpiece Circle ($5,000): The potential tax-deductible amount is $4,775.
• Director’s Circle ($10,000): The potential tax-deductible amount is $9,675.
• Benefactors’ Circle ($15,000): The potential tax-deductible amount is $14,675.
• Founder’s Circle ($25,000): The potential tax-deductible amount is $24,675.

What does it mean to waive my benefits?
If you spend $100 or more on a membership, you have the option to waive the value of its benefits. This means that no goods or services will be provided in exchange for your membership contribution and the membership is good for admission only.

Under certain circumstances, membership benefits may be waived because of reasons such as (but not limited to) the purchase of a membership through a foundation, grant, or charitable fund. If you have any questions about why your benefits may have been waived, please contact Membership; we will be happy to provide additional information.

Are memberships transferable?
No, memberships are nontransferable. Because of accounting rules and regulations, memberships are a tax-deductible gift and therefore cannot be transferred.

Can I share a membership with someone?
A friend, partner, family member, roommate, spouse, or anyone else aged 18 or older can be named as a secondary member on a membership. Memberships which allow for two members include Dual, Family, Dual Senior, Friend, Patron, and Benefactor. If you do now want to name a secondary member, you will receive a “Guest of” card allowing you to bring guests to the museum.

When do memberships expire?
All memberships are active the day of purchase and will expire after one year. If you are a current member and renew your membership early, your membership will extend to one year past your current expiration date.

Can my membership auto-renew?
No. We do not currently offer auto-renewal as a payment option for memberships. We do not store payment information with your membership profile

Who qualifies as a student?
A person aged 18 or older with a valid student ID from a college or university can purchase a Student membership. To qualify for this special rate, you must present a valid ID upon purchase and upon each renewal at that level.

Students 18 years of age and younger always receive free admission to the Frist Art Museum.

How do I present my ID?
If purchasing or renewing in person, the Guest Services associate will check your student ID and make a copy for the Membership office’s records. If purchasing online, we ask that you send a copy of your ID to Membership@FristArtMuseum.org as an image or PDF. If you can’t send a copy, please show your ID upon your first visit to the museum after purchase.

What forms of ID do you accept?
We accept valid physical student IDs issued by a college or university. If you have not received a physical student ID, we also accept student transcripts or other official university-issued documents with your name listed as a student.

We do accept student IDs from colleges and universities outside of Tennessee.
We do accept students from all degree programs (associate, bachelor, master, and doctorate).
We do not accept business cards, personal notes, or emails as ID. We also do not accept expired IDs or alumni IDs.

Can I sign up for a Student membership online or over the phone?
Yes! Please send a copy of your ID to Membership@FristArtMuseum.org as an image or PDF. If you can’t send a copy, please show your ID upon your first visit to the museum after purchase.

I accidentally purchased a Student membership but do not qualify. What do I do?
That’s all right, it happens! If you find that you do not qualify for the Student membership, our Membership team is happy to help you upgrade your membership to the level that works best for you. Most of our members in this situation upgrade to an Individual level, but you may upgrade to any level you qualify for.

Teacher (1 member)

Who qualifies as a teacher?
An active, certified public or private K–12 teacher, independent home educator (homeschoolers), or faculty member of an accredited college or university can purchase a Teacher membership. To qualify for this special rate, you must present a valid ID upon purchase and upon each renewal at that level.

Retired educators must upgrade to another level; many upgrade to the Senior level. Please contact Membership if you need help upgrading.

How do I present my ID?
If purchasing or renewing in person, the Guest Services associate will check your teacher ID and make a copy for the Membership office’s records. If purchasing online, we ask that you send a copy of your ID to Membership@FristArtMuseum.org as an image or PDF. If you can’t send a copy, please show your ID upon your first visit to the museum after purchase.

K–12 teachers and faculty members of an accredited college or university must present a valid faculty ID or badge or your teaching license/certificate for the current school year. We do not accept business cards, personal notes, or emails as ID. If you do not have an ID or badge provided by your college, university, or school district, we request a letter from your institution proving your employment and status as a teacher/educator.

Independent home educators (homeschoolers) must provide a copy of the Intent to Home School form you submitted to your local school district. We do not accept screenshots or website links to home education programs.

Can I sign up for a Teacher membership online or over the phone?
Yes! Please send a copy of your ID to Membership@FristArtMuseum.org as an image or PDF. If you can’t send a copy, please show your ID upon your first visit to the museum after purchase.

My partner/spouse and I are both teachers, do you have a Dual Teacher level?
We do not currently offer a Teacher level which would allow for a secondary member. You can either both sign up for separate Teacher memberships, or you can purchase one of our memberships for two members, such as our Dual level. This applies to independent home educators as well.

I accidentally purchased a Teacher membership but do not qualify. What do I do?
That’s all right, it happens! If you find that you do not qualify for the Teacher membership, our Membership team is happy to help you upgrade your membership to the level that works best for you. Most of our members in this situation upgrade to an Individual level, but you may upgrade to any level you qualify for.

Senior and Dual Senior (1 member or 1–2 members)

Who qualifies as a senior?
The Frist Art Museum recognizes individuals ages 65 and older as seniors. To purchase a Senior membership, you must present a valid ID at the time of purchase to validate your birth year.

For a Dual Senior membership, do both members have to meet the age requirement?
Yes, both members must be 65 years old or older to qualify for a Dual Senior level membership.

What makes the Family membership different from the Dual membership?
Our Dual membership is our starting point for memberships with two adults. The secondary member can be a friend, relative, colleague, spouse, or anyone else aged 18 or older.

Like the Dual membership, the Family membership may list two adults as the primary and secondary member. However, this level is especially beneficial for households with children ages 18 and younger. Children may be listed on the Family membership, and you may also add a caregiver who is authorized to accompany the family’s children to and around the museum if the primary or secondary members cannot be present.

What are the requirements for a designated caregiver?
The caregiver named by the primary member on a Family membership is a person aged 18 or older who may bring the children listed on the membership to the museum without the primary or secondary members present. The caregiver receives free admission when visiting with the children named on the membership. The caregiver is not a member and will not receive a member card. Instead, when bringing children to the museum, the caregiver must check in at Membership by presenting a valid ID.

I don’t want to provide my children’s birthdays but still want them to receive birthday gifts. What can I do?
We understand that not every family may be comfortable sharing their children’s birthdays, and you are not required to provide that information. If you still want to receive the birthday gift benefit, we recommend providing a date with an accurate month and year, but choosing the first day of the month instead. (For example, if your child’s birthday is June 14, 2010, you could instead provide the birthday June 1, 2010).

Can I add my child to my Family membership if they are older than 18?
The Family membership is limited to two adult members. You may list yourself as the primary member and your adult child as the secondary member. However, if you already have a primary and secondary member named, adults above the age of 18 will either need their own membership or to purchase gallery admission.

What’s the difference between General and Contributing Memberships?
Contributing memberships support the Frist Art Museum while also allowing members to access museums beyond the Frist. Along with other benefits, Contributory members enjoy free admission to museums within our reciprocal networks. You can support and spend time in your home museum and visit others when you travel!

What’s the difference between Friend, Patron, and Benefactor levels?
The Friend level ($125) includes the benefits listed above. The Patron ($250) and Benefactor ($500) levels provide additional support to the Frist Art Museum and include an additional 10 percent discount on gift membership purchases as a thank-you.

What are the reciprocal benefits for Contributory Members?

Happy birthday! The end of a Warhol Society membership is certainly not the end of membership and engagement with the Frist Art Museum. New Memberships

How do I purchase a membership?
Memberships can be purchased online, over the phone, or in person at the Guest Services and Membership desks during museum hours. All memberships are active the day of purchase and expire in one year.

Members can always visit the museum before receiving their membership cards! All they need is a valid ID to check in at Guest Services.

Do I need to provide my phone number/email address when signing up for membership?
Yes, we need our members to provide their contact information so that we can share membership information and important materials such as membership cards. Your privacy is very important to us, and we do not share your personal information with outside parties.

What membership level is right for me?
We offer a variety of membership levels with different prices and benefits. Considering which price and benefit combination best suit you? Please see the Membership Levels and Benefits section for details on each membership level.

What benefits will I get as a member?
A membership with the Frist Art Museum is more than just free admission to our exhibitions. Members enjoy special events, museum programming and lectures, discounts on parking and the gift shop, and more.

Will I be able to visit museums other than the Frist Art Museum with a membership?

Can I transfer my membership to someone else?
Memberships are nontransferable. If an error occurred during the purchasing process which put the membership in another name, please contact the Membership team for assistance.

Can you refund my membership?
Memberships are not refundable. If an error such as a double transaction occurred during the purchasing process or the incorrect membership level was purchased, please contact the Membership team for assistance.

I purchased the wrong membership level by mistake. What do I do?
No problem, it happens! Please contact Membership as close to the time of transaction as possible, and we will assist in upgrading or downgrading your membership to the desired level.

Current Members

How do I renew my membership?
Memberships can be renewed online, over the phone, with a mail-in renewal form, or in person at the Guest Services and Membership desks during museum hours. All membership renewals are active the day of purchase and extend your membership for another year.

How do I upgrade my membership to a higher level?
If you are approaching your expiration date and are renewing for another year, select the level you want to upgrade to instead of your current level. Proceed to pay for renewal as normal.

If you are in the middle of your membership for the year and want to upgrade to a higher level, please contact Membership or speak with our Guest Services team in person and we will assist you.

How do I downgrade my membership to a lower level?
If you are approaching your current membership’s renewal date, please select the level you want to downgrade to when you renew online. If you are sending in a mail-in renewal form, please indicate your downgrade on the form and send us a check for your desired level.

Memberships cannot be downgraded before they expire.

When does my membership expire?
All memberships are valid for one year after purchase. Your expiration date will be on your plastic and digital membership cards. Still can’t find it? Contact Membership and we will be happy to look it up for you.

What happens if I renew my membership early?
Early membership renewal will add twelve months to your current expiration date. For example, if your expiration date is in March but you renewed in February, your new expiration date will be in March of the next year.

Why did I receive a renewal reminder if I already renewed my membership?
If you received a renewal reminder and already renewed, this is likely because of processing time between your renewal and the delivery of the reminder. This is most common with our mailed renewal notices because of the delivery time of letters via USPS.

If you are still not sure whether you have renewed your membership, contact Membership and we’ll be happy to check for you.

I sent my renewal check by mail but have not received a response yet. What do I do?
Our Membership team works to process all renewals sent by mail as soon as they arrive. If you are unsure whether your membership has been renewed yet, please contact Membership and we’ll be happy to check for you.

If your check has cleared and you have not received your membership cards, it is likely that your membership has been activated and your membership cards are being processed. You can visit the museum before you receive your membership cards—all you need is a valid ID to check in at Guest Services!

If your check has not cleared, it is likely still in the mail. If you have any concerns, contact Membership, and we will let you know whether we have received your renewal.

How do I remove someone from my membership?
The primary member of a membership (or the person who paid for the membership) can remove the secondary member from a membership under certain circumstances.

If you would like to remove a deceased member, we are sorry for your loss. Please notify our Membership team and we will update the member information accordingly. We can designate someone else as the secondary member or provide you with a guest pass.

How do I update my membership profile information?
We are happy to update your personal and contact information (new phone number, new email, new name, new home, household changes, etc.). Please call or send an email to the Membership team to notify us of updates.

How do I find my membership ID number?

Your member ID is the number located below the bar code on your digital and physical member cards.

When can I expect to receive my physical membership cards?
Membership cards are processed and sent to our distributors every three to four weeks. Mailing times via USPS vary and may affect how soon you receive your mail. While we have been experiencing production and mailing delays, our team is working to get physical cards to our members as soon as possible.

All memberships are active the day of purchase, and you can always visit the Frist Art Museum before receiving your membership cards.

I have lost my membership card. Can I get a replacement?
Contact the Membership team for replacement cards. Please note that we do not replace membership cards for memberships within two months of their expiration date, but we are happy to provide proof of membership in the form of a PDF document. We can also help you with your digital cards.

Don’t forget, your can always visit the Frist Art Museum without your membership card—just provide a valid ID when you check in at Guest Services, and we will look up your membership.

When can I expect to receive my digital card download link?
Emails containing links for digital card downloads are sent in batches every few weeks. If you have not received your emailed link after four weeks, check your spam! The email will come from Frist Art Museum via membership@cuseum.com. If you still cannot find the email, please contact Membership and we would be happy to send you a new link.

Please note that if you have renewed your membership and already have a digital card downloaded to your phone, the card will update automatically—no need to download it again.

I will be traveling and visiting another museum soon but do not have a card. Could you send me a proof of reciprocity?
Absolutely! If you are a member who receives reciprocal benefits (all Contributing levels) and require proof of membership for upcoming travel, please email membership@FristArtMuseum.org. We will provide a PDF with proof of reciprocity or a new link to download your digital cards. Please give at least one week’s notice for processing.

How do I purchase a gift membership?
Gift memberships can be purchased online, over the phone, or in person with our Guest or Member Services associates during museum hours.

What happens after I purchase a gift membership?
All gift memberships are active the day of purchase. You, the gift giver, will receive a gift-of-membership acknowledgment email, which will include a printable and foldable card for the recipient.

Your gift recipient will be notified seven days after the day of purchase when they are sent their digital membership cards via email. Physical membership cards are processed and mailed in batches and may take six weeks to reach your gift recipient. Please keep this in mind when timing your gift purchases.

Gift membership recipients can always visit the Frist Art Museum with their new membership before receiving their digital or physical membership cards. All they need is a valid ID to check in at Guest Services.

Someone gave me a membership to the Frist Art Museum. Now what?
Welcome! We’re thrilled you’ve joined us for a year of membership. You can visit the Frist Art Museum with your new membership as soon as you’d like! If you haven’t already, you will soon receive membership cards in the mail and digital membership cards via email. If you have not received your membership cards yet, you can still visit the Frist Art Museum—just show a valid ID to a Guest Services associate and they will check you in using your name.

If you would like to update any of your contact or personal information on your membership profile, please reach out the Membership team and we’ll be happy to make those changes for you.

When does my gift recipient’s membership start?
All memberships are active immediately after purchase and are valid for a full year (twelve months).

Can I delay my gift recipient’s membership start date?
No, we cannot delay the membership start date. All memberships are active for one year starting on the day of purchase.

What if I have not received an email acknowledgment yet?
Email acknowledgments to the gift giver are automatically sent the day of purchase.
Emails containing digital membership card information are automatically sent to the gift recipient seven days after purchase.

If you have not received your email acknowledgment after a few days, please contact our Membership team for assistance. There may have been an error with the email provided or another issue.

What if I have not received membership cards yet?
Emails containing digital membership card information are automatically sent to the gift recipient seven days after the day of purchase.

Physical membership cards are processed and mailed in batches monthly and may take six to eight weeks to arrive.

What if I can’t print the foldable gift acknowledgment card at home?
You can send your gift recipient their acknowledgment via email if you cannot print it at home. The acknowledgment card is meant to be a fun addition to your gift giving and is not needed to receive membership benefits.

Do I have to be a member to purchase a gift membership?
Anyone can purchase a gift membership; you do not have to be a member.

Can I purchase a gift membership for my spouse/partner and include myself as a member on the membership?
Yes! If you are purchasing a membership in person or over the phone, you may request for your transaction to be a gift of membership and for yourself to be listed as the secondary member. If you are purchasing online, you may list yourself as the secondary member and your spouse/partner as the primary member.

Please note: This is a matter of preference. There is no difference between memberships purchased regularly or as a gift besides the delivery of membership materials.

Can I buy a Teacher/Student/Warhol Society membership for someone else if I don’t have their ID?
Yes, you can! Please have them send a copy of their ID to membership@FristArtMuseum.org as soon as possible or show it on their first visit to verify their age or student/teacher status.

Why do I have to provide both my and my gift recipient’s contact information?
We need the contact information of your gift recipient to complete their membership profile and give them full access to their membership benefits. Members of the Frist Art Museum receive mailed and emailed communications throughout the year for programming and exhibition announcements, invitations, and more.

Your contact information is required for billing and to email your gift-of-membership acknowledgment.

Your privacy is very important to us, and we do not share your personal information with outside parties.

What if I can’t provide contact information for my gift recipient?
We need the contact information of your gift recipient to complete their membership profile and to ensure they receive all benefits of their membership. We require that you provide at least a mailing address and an email for your gift recipient.

If there is a special circumstance that prevents you from providing this information, please contact the Membership team.

Can I purchase a gift membership if I don’t know who I am going to give it to yet?
No. We must have a member listed on a membership.

Can I purchase a gift membership for two members if I don’t know who my gift recipient wants as a secondary member?
Yes. If you know who the primary member will be but not the secondary member, we will provide a “Guest of” card until otherwise directed by the recipient. Your gift recipient can also contact us to change this information.

Membership Cards

Do I need a membership card to visit the Frist Art Museum?
Members can always visit the Frist Art Museum with or without their membership cards! You can check in at Guest or Member Services using your physical or digital cards, or by providing your name and a valid ID such as a driver’s license.

Can I share my membership card with someone else?
No. Each membership is assigned to a specific member, so membership cards cannot be used by another person. We ask that members be present for guests to use guest passes.

I will be traveling and visiting another museum soon but do not have a card. Could you send me a proof of reciprocity?
Absolutely! If you are a member who receives reciprocal benefits (all Contributing levels) your digital membership cards will have the NARM and ROAM logos to show your reciprocal benefits at other institutions.

If you do not have access to your digital card, please email membership@FristArtMuseum.org. We will provide a PDF with proof of reciprocity or a new link to download your digital cards. Please give at least one week’s notice for processing.

The information on my digital/physical cards is incorrect. Can I get that fixed?
Please contact Membership and we will check your membership information to make sure everything is correct.

Digital Cards

How do I download my digital membership cards?
The primary member of the membership will receive an email from us with a link to digital membership cards. Using the link in that email, you can access a digital version of your membership card. This card can be viewed on your browser or downloaded to your Apple Wallet or Google Pay.

I have not received a download link yet. What should I do?
Emails with digital membership cards are sent automatically after your membership has been activated or renewed. If you have not received your card after two business days, please contact our Membership team for assistance.

Please note that digital cards for recipients of gift memberships will have their cards emailed within seven days of the day of purchase (please see the Gift Membership section for more information).

The information on my membership card is incorrect, what do I do?
Contact the Membership team and we’ll be happy to update your membership information or assist in resolving a technical issue.

Please consider that your membership card may have not updated in your digital wallet. To troubleshoot, try deleting the digital card and redownload the card for changes to appear.

Physical Cards

When will I receive my cards in the mail?
Membership cards are processed and sent to our distributors every few weeks. Mailing times via USPS vary and may affect how soon you receive your mail, but most members receive their membership cards six to eight weeks after purchase. While we have been experiencing production and mailing delays, our team is working to get cards to our members as soon as possible.

What if I need physical membership cards before then?
If you need a physical form of your membership card before then, your digital membership card can also be printed at home for ease of use. Members can also visit the Frist Art Museum any time—just present a valid ID during check-in and we will find your membership using your name.

I misplaced my physical cards. What do I do?
Members of the Frist Art Museum can always visit the museum without their membership cards. All you need is a form of valid ID such as a driver’s license for our Guest Services team to check you in.

You can also use your digital membership card link to print your membership cards at home.

If you still need replacement cards, please contact the Membership team for assistance. It can take some time to reprint cards, so please note that we do not replace membership cards within two months of the membership’s expiration date.

Can I pick up my cards in person?
No. All physical cards are mailed to the mailing address listed on the membership profile. If you are moving or have another concern about your mailing address, contact Membership for help.
