NASHVILLE, Tenn. (April 25, 2019)—Five new board members have been elected to the Frist Art Museum Board of Trustees. The new members are Elizabeth Shaughnessy Dennis, Neil Krugman, Wanda Lyle, Karen Moore, and Jamaal B. Sheats. Marc J. Adesso will serve as a Young Leaders board intern.
Elizabeth Shaughnessy Dennis serves as a board member of KIPP Nashville where she chairs the development committee and is a member of the executive committee. She is a trustee at Harpeth Hall School where she chairs the investment committee and serves on the strategic planning committee. Dennis has held positions in finance with The Travelers, Goldman Sachs, and Chase Manhattan Bank in their New York and Tokyo offices. Dennis graduated from the University of Connecticut in Storrs with a Bachelor of Science in finance. In 2006 she moved to Nashville, where her focus turned to philanthropy, specifically in education reform, public health, and the arts. She and her husband Bob have three children.
Neil Krugman is a partner in the Waller law firm, where he specializes in healthcare and health insurance. He is widely recognized in his field and is a frequent speaker on healthcare and insurance topics before a wide range of industry groups. He currently serves on the Frist’s Development Council and is a member of the Frist’s President’s Circle and the Friends of Contemporary Art. He has been active on the boards of the Nashville Ballet, the Centennial Park Conservancy, and the Belcourt Theatre. He is also a trustee of the Sandra Schatten Foundation. Krugman grew up in Durham, North Carolina, graduated from Yale University in 1974 and the University of North Carolina Law School in 1978. He has made Nashville home for more than 30 years. He and Lee Pratt, also a supporter of the Frist and active in the community, have four children between them.
Wanda Lyle is a managing director and the general manager of the UBS Business Solutions Center in Nashville and is also the president of UBS Business Solutions US LLC, the corporate service company supporting UBS’s US operating entities. She began her career at Merrill Lynch, where she spent 29 years in a range of positions in the Wealth Management Americas division. Lyle is an active leader in the greater Nashville community, with a particular focus on supporting public education and the city’s economic competitiveness. She is chair of Greater Nashville YWCA and past chair of the Nashville Public Education Foundation. Additionally, Lyle is a member of the Tennessee Business Leaders Council, and also serves as secretary of the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce board. Her additional board service includes NashvilleHealth, St. Thomas Health, and the Tennessee College Access and Success Network. Lyle serves on the Mayor’s Music City Music Council and is a member of the Tennessee Women’s Forum, Downtown Nashville Rotary, and the 2017–2018 Leadership Nashville Class, where she serves as program co-chair for the 2018–2019 class. Lyle earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Mississippi. She and her husband, Jerry, have two grown daughters, a granddaughter, and a grandson.
Karen Moore is the founder and president of Project Redesign, a Nashville nonprofit offering room makeovers and interior design services for low-income families. Prior to starting Project Redesign, she worked in marketing for the Beatrice Food Company and in sales for the Robert J. Young Company. Moore has served as a Sunday school teacher and youth Bible study leader for ten years and has been active with the University of Mississippi alumni association and Women’s Council. Through the council, she founded the Global Leadership Circle, which funds study abroad stipends for students, and has served twice as chairman for the council’s annual fundraiser. Karen joined the Nashville Zoo board in 2019 and is co-chair of the 2019 Call of the Wild Dinner. At the Frist, Moore co-chaired the Frist Gala in 2008, and she has served on the executive committee for the Frist Gala and the development council. Karen earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Mississippi. She and her husband, Bruce Moore, have three children between them.
Jamaal B. Sheats is the director and curator of the Fisk University Galleries and an assistant professor in the art department. A practicing artist, Sheats has maintained a strong domestic and international exhibition record over the last two decades. He has received commissions to create works for the National Museum of African American Music, the Nashville Music City Center, and others. Sheats is active in the arts community and holds positions on the Arts & Business Council, the HBCU Alliance of Museums and Galleries, the Association of Academic Museums & Galleries, the Frist’s education council, and the Association of Art Museum Curators Professional Practices Committee. Sheats obtained his Bachelor of Science in art from Fisk University and an MFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and Tufts University.
Marc Adesso is a corporate attorney at the Waller law firm who assists companies, investment banks, and high net worth individuals in capital markets, corporate finance, and securities transactions. Adesso has built a national practice as a guide for market participants conducting their initial public offerings and subsequent securities transactions. In 2015, he moved his legal practice from New York City to Nashville. Adesso serves on the boards of the Nashville Jazz Workshop and FALL, an aerial, contemporary dance company. Adesso is fluent in Italian and Portuguese and holds an MA in Italian literature from New York University. He earned his JD from Marquette University Law School, his MBA from Thunderbird School of Global Management and undergraduate degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Adesso will join the Frist as a Young Leaders board intern.
