Celebrating the conclusion of this year’s Vitality Arts Project, which spanned October 2025 through October 2026, this exhibition showcases artworks created during these workshops for participants aged 55 and older. The program was presented in partnership with FiftyForward, Nashville Public Library, and Nashville Parks and Recreation. The program was supported by a Vitality Arts grant from E. A. Michelson Philanthropy.

Each workshop comprised eight ninety-minute sessions.  Under the guidance of professional teaching artists Alice Aida Ayers (textile art), Amber Lelli (beginner digital art and mixed media), Graeme Morris (advanced digital art), Alison Underwood (acrylic painting), DaShawn Lewis (digital photography), Susanna Chapman (watercolor painting), Rachel Durham (hand-building clay), Maggie Sanger (surrealist printmaking), Jenni Dickens (gouache painting), and Shawn Krise (pastels), participants learned techniques, explored Frist exhibitions, and created a diverse selection of works while developing community and personal connections.

Surrealist Printmaking and Collage Workshop

In July of 2026, the Frist teamed with the Nashville Public Library Donelson Branch to host a free Surrealist Printmaking and Collage Workshop. Guided by artists Maggie Sanger and Alison Underwood, students gained tools for creative expression while engaging with the exhibition International Surrealism from Tate: Fifty Years of Dreams, which was on view at the Frist at that time.
