As part of the Frist Art Museum’s experiential learning program, teaching assistantships are designed to provide a paid opportunity to experience teaching in an informal learning environment to those with an interest in museum or art education. Working under the guidance of Frist Art Museum Educators, teaching assistants gain valuable knowledge and experience working with learners of all ages through a variety of programs, methods, and media at the Frist Art Museum and out in the community. Teaching Assistants research exhibitions, develop lessons and activities, and implement programs under the guidance of Community Engagement or Experiential Learning staff. The program calendar coincides with the academic calendar, offering teaching Assistantships during fall and spring semesters.

To apply for the Teaching Assistant program, students must be:
• Enrolled at a college or university when applying
• Holding junior, senior, or graduate student status when applying
• Pursuing a degree in art education, art history, general education, museum studies, or studio art

Ideal applicants are available at least two weekdays from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. as well as some evenings, weekends, holidays, and school breaks. Most teaching assistants work 15-20 hours a week for 16 to 21 consecutive weeks and earn a rate of pay as determined by Human Resources.

Teaching Assistants are considered employees of Nashville Talent Payment with a placement at the Frist Art Museum. There is no contract, and the arrangement can be terminated at any time.
The Frist Art Museum is committed to offering equal participation in all programs without regard to race, creed, national origin, age, gender, marital status, veteran status, or disability.
