For four years, German photographer Uwe Ommer traveled the world, creating empathetic photographs of 1,251 families in 130 countries on five continents. The results of his odyssey appear in his book, 1000 Families, published in three languages.

The Frist Art Museum exhibited 100 images from this collection, arrayed along the length of the Conte Community Arts Gallery and in the Turner Courtyard.

As celebrations of human vitality and the spirit of love that animates families around the world, Ommer’s photographs have truly international appeal.
