Join artist and educator Kristi Hargrove to explore topics like creativity, problem solving, play, and curiosity in visual art. We will create mixed-media artworks using processes such as tracing, resizing, cutting, drawing, and layering. During the creative process, implied narratives may emerge and direct further choices as we make art together.

If the program is sold out and you would like to be added to a wait list, please contact Shaun Giles at sgiles@FristArtMuseum.org.

About the Instructor

Kristi Hargrove considers drawing and tracing to be experimental processes not bound by representation. Relying on her intuition, Hargrove translates inspiration from the world around her into markings that refer beyond her apparent subjects. Whether in depicting the life of a deceased family member by deconstructing their living space or defamiliarizing an iceberg’s presence underwater, Hargrove uses drawing as a method to open conversations and perspectives beyond language.

Hargrove earned an MFA from Vermont College of Fine Arts, Montpelier, and a BA from Vanderbilt University, Nashville. Since 1992, she has taught at Watkins College of Art, Nashville (now part of Belmont University), where she is currently the chair of the MFA program and associate professor. Her work has been exhibited in several solo and group shows, including at Belmont University’s Leu Gallery; Cumberland Gallery, Nashville; David Lusk Gallery, Nashville; the Frist Art Museum, Nashville; Meinblau Projektraum, Berlin; Middle Tennessee State University, Murfreesboro; Stove Works, Chattanooga; and Vanderbilt University.
