Join us for a hands-on self-defense workshop led by Nikki Chiavuzzi of Deer Lady Defense. We’ll start small and build together, with care taken to meet you where you are. Presented in conjunction with An Indigenous Present, the class will cover how to protect yourself during any altercation for safety and survival, foundational movements such as breaking out of grips and body locks, and defense against higher probability attacks along with counter–human trafficking education. Students will leave feeling confident in core grappling concepts. We’d love for you to keep growing; continuing your training at a local gym after the seminar is highly encouraged!

About the Presenter

Deer Lady Defense is a nonprofit that seeks to empower Native American communities through classes in grappling, jiu jitsu, and other forms of self-defense to combat disproportionate rates of human trafficking. Nikki Chiavuzzi teaches self-defense across multiple organizations that serve women, children, and minority communities. Chiavuzzi blends her martial-arts expertise with real-life experience to offer training that is thorough, practical, and trauma-informed. She is one of Deer Lady Defense’s core instructors and travels the country to teach and compete with a heart for the communities she serves. She firmly believes everyone deserves the tools and confidence that come from learning self-defense for their own safety and preservation.
