NASHVILLE, Tenn. (February 20, 2018)—The Frist Center for the Visual Arts has announced a statewide call to Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) studio art students to submit artwork for 2018 Young Tennessee Artists: Selections from Advanced Studio Art Programs. The exhibition will be on view to the public in the Frist Center’s always-free Conte Community Arts Gallery from October 20, 2018 through March 17, 2019.
This seventh edition of the biennial exhibition will showcase the best two-dimensional artwork and films created by high school students who were enrolled in AP and IB studio art programs throughout Tennessee during the 2017–2018 academic year.
“Young Tennessee Artists is always a wonderful look at the future of the visual arts in our state,” says Frist Center director of education and outreach Anne Henderson. “Two years ago, we received more than 800 submissions from across the state, and the caliber of the art submitted was exceptional. This is a tremendous opportunity not only to recognize student artists, but also to salute art teachers across the state who, in so many ways, inspire the work of their talented students.”
A jury of university educators, artists, and curators will choose 30–35 works from those submitted. The Frist Center will mat and frame all the works for display, which are to be delivered to the museum between June 25 and July 13, 2018. The selected artists, their families, and their teachers will be invited to a reception in December 2018 to celebrate the exhibition.
