Explore your creativity, learn a new skill, and create art with hand-building pottery in this free workshop, taught by Rachel Durham at the FiftyForward J. L. Turner Center and presented in partnership with the Frist Art Museum.
Dive into hand-building pottery techniques and develop new forms of creative expression using clay and underglaze paints. Each week, we will learn new skills and gain tools for creative expression while developing community and engaging with the Frist’s exhibitions and programs.
This workshop consists of eight 90-minute art-making sessions, with a culminating reception and celebration on week nine. Participants also receive a complimentary one-year membership to the Frist Art Museum. All materials are provided, and there is no charge for the class.

About the Instructor
Rachel Durham is a local artist and art educator who has worked with a wide range of audiences and media, with an emphasis on ceramic work. She believes that education around clay can be accessible and aims to design projects that are not only achievable for all learners but are enjoyable as well. Durham focuses on building skills to last past the classroom by instilling confidence and understanding of how and when to use each technique. Whether students are touching clay for the first time or are seasoned ceramic artists, Durham believes there is always something to learn through every process and project.
