Join the Nashville Jazz Workshop for the first installment of the first Jazz on the Move event of 2025, a free educational performance honoring the life and music of Thelonious Monk, led by pianist Bruce Dudley. Monk, a pivotal figure in jazz, was renowned for his unique improvisational style and contributions to the bebop movement, with classics like “Round Midnight” and “Blue Monk.” His innovative approach to dissonance and rhythm has inspired generations of musicians.
Bruce Dudley, a Steinway artist and Associate Professor of Music at Belmont University, brings his extensive experience and passion for jazz to this tribute, flanked by Don Aliquo (tenor sax), Rob Linton (bass), and Ryan Brasley (drums). With over 40 years of experience in jazz performance and education, including his 2010 album Mostly Monk, Dr. Dudley’s insightful commentary and masterful renditions of Monk’s compositions promise to be a treat for all!
The event is free and includes admission to Frist Art Museum galleries and discounted parking in the Frist visitor parking lots based on availability. Space in the auditorium is limited and seating is available on a first-come, first-seated basis.
