Presented by Judy Klich

Encaustic is an ancient medium combining beeswax, oil paint, and resin. Participants in this workshop will learn different encaustic techniques including incising, scraping, layering wax, using stencils and metal imprinting tools, and fusing with a heat gun. Learn how to incorporate photography and drawing into encaustic and use oil pastels and painting to add details. Each technique will be demonstrated, and participants will have time to complete two small, finished paintings.

If the program is sold out and you would like to be added to a wait list, please contact Shaun Giles at sgiles@FristArtMuseum.org.

About the Instructor

Judy Klich has practiced interior design for over twenty-five years and taught drawing and painting, sculpture and ceramics, digital art and architecture, and interior design at Christ Presbyterian Academy for the past four years.

While pursuing her master of fine arts degree at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, Klich discovered encaustic during a mixed-media class and realized it was the perfect medium to express her love of nature, abstraction, and geometry. Her process incorporates painting, drawing, collage, and photograph transfers, creating an unexpected and spontaneous flow of energy and endless possibilities.
