Join the Frist Art Museum and Hideko Shimizu for this workshop inspired by Journey through Japan: Myths to Manga. Participants will be introduced to ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arrangement, which embodies a profound philosophy rooted in the concepts of balance and harmony. This philosophy is influenced by various sources, including the Chinese principle of yin and yang, Japanese cultural aesthetics like those of Zen Buddhism, and the concept of wabi-sabi—acceptance of imperfection and impermanence in beauty. Participants will learn Japanese flower arrangement techniques through a hands-on lesson, which includes an ikebana kit to take home and continue creating beautiful flower arrangements.
