As an integral part of his artistic practice, Terry Adkins created multidisciplinary performances—which he called “recitals”—to bring his works to life and highlight overlooked facets of history. In conjunction with the exhibition Terry Adkins: Our Sons and Daughters Ever on the Altar, Fisk University, the Frist Art Museum, and the National Museum of African American Music present a performance inspired by Adkins’s recitals, featuring music, dance, and spoken word poetry in honor of Harlem Renaissance luminaries.
