Move Your Body! Silent Disco
1:00–3:00 p.m.
Auditorium (Main Level)

A silent disco is a dance event where people listen to music on headphones. The lights and movement of a dance party are there, but the space is very quiet! Come tune into the beat for a surreal experience you’ll never forget. Please note: our headphones are sized for adults and may be too large for very small children.

Balloon Artist Response: Feat.
1:00–3:30 p.m.
Grand Lobby (Main Level)

Anthony the Balloon Kid has created balloon artwork since he was 12 years old. Inspired by the world around him, Anthony loves delighting children with his squeaky and colorful creations. Catch Anthony in the Grand Lobby as he responds to the exhibition Nick Cave: Feat. through his artistic medium: balloons!

Listen, Move, Imagine
5:00 p.m.
Auditorium (Main Level)

The VSA TN Movement Connection Dance program, under the artistic direction of Danielle Clement, presents a dazzling performance inspired by the multisensory artwork of Nick Cave!

Choreography by Shabaz Ujima of the Nashville Ballet; costumes by VSA TN Teapot Diplomats Austin King, Hope McKee, and Torie Summers under the artistic direction of Dee Kimbrell; music by VSA TN Young Soloist musicians Drew Basham, Sarah Franklin, Allie Hemmings, Tyler Samuel, and Gregory Price Stallings under the artistic direction of Kristen Freeman of the Nashville Symphony. Special thanks to the Tennessee Arts Commission for grants funding this performance.

Art-Making Activities

Soundsuit Hand Dancers
1:00–5:00 p.m.
Studio A (Upper Level)

Nick Cave’s human-shaped sculptures, called soundsuits, are often made from everyday materials such as beads, buttons, and old toys. When worn by performers, these soundsuits come alive as instruments of creative expression. Create your own mini-soundsuit on a hand dancer, with a wild array of art materials.

My Disguise
1:00–5:00 p.m.
Studio B (Upper Level)

Many of us have encountered face-painting at fairs or on holidays, but have you ever tried your own hand at it? Just like Nick Cave, whose artwork can disguise its wearers, you can create your own disguise. Join us to transform your face, giving yourself a new identity! Parental assistance suggested for ages 8 and younger.

Sound Bangles
1:00–5:00 p.m.
Studio C (Upper Level)

Performance art combines visual art with drama, dance, or some other type of physical performance to create a special experience for the viewer. Nick Cave’s performance art pieces are often a stunning combination of sound, movement, and color. Create a wearable musical instrument for your own home performances.

Martin ArtQuest® Gallery
1:00–5:30 p.m. (Upper Level)

Visit the Martin ArtQuest Gallery to experiment with a variety of exciting hands-on art activities. Create a watercolor painting, take a spin on our printing press, and enjoy additional art-making activities with your family.

We are renovating after sixteen years! The new Martin ArtQuest Gallery will be revealed in June 2018.
