Featuring: Bridgette Kohnhorst, Director, Great Performances at Vanderbilt and Sarratt Art Gallery, Vanderbilt University

Join Bridgette Kohnhorst as she discusses the performative nature and kinesthetic qualities of Carrie Mae Weems’s work. With special attention to the series Beacon and Roaming, she will explore how Weems uses human subjects to capture, confront, and reveal themes related to adversity, identity, and cultural assumptions. Kohnhorst will relay, from a contemporary movement point of view, how a viewer can better discern an artist’s poetic objective through the artist’s use of the human body, its gestures, presentation, and motions in the space contained within a work.
